Help rebuild the meadow - Saturday May 10 seed-sowing day

At the end of last year, Mabley Meadow was buried under a 49-tonne pile of flytipped rubbish. But then something amazing happened - the daffodils bloomed anyway, and the bluebells are peeping out of the grass. So the meadow won't be beaten - and neither will we!

Join us on Saturday 10 May, from 11am-1pm for a meadow seed-sowing extravaganza, and show those flytippers they can't keep us down.

On the day we'll pick up the small amount of rubbish that was missed in the clean up (so if you have a pair of gardening gloves, bring them along). Then when the meadow's spic and span again, we'll sow a new batch of wildflower seeds then get ready for incredible summer. See you there!

Seed sowing extravaganza - Saturday 15 October

With winter on the way, it's time to get everything ready for a spectacular spring in 2012. So come down to the meadow on Saturday October 15 between 12pm and 4.30pm and help sow our next batch of wildflower seeds.

This will be our last gardening day before a 5 month break over winter, and this year will be slightly different than our other seed-sowing days in two important ways.

First, it'll be MUCH easier than other years, because instead of sowing annuals (plants that only live for one summer), we'll be sowing a meadow mix that includes grass and perennials (plants that come back year after year). So we'll have hardly any weeding and digging to do. Phew!

Second, the amazing Sue from Friends of Homerton Station will be leading the day. Sue's a passionate gardener and wildflower expert, so she'll be on hand to answer all your questions and make sure the meadow's better than ever in 2012.

See you there!

Seed sowing day! Saturday March 19th!

Save the date! Because on Saturday 19th February, we'll be giving spring a kick up the pants by sowing the next batch of meadow seeds.

On the day, we'll be:
- digging over the ground next to the path to make it nice and wildflower-friendly.
- sowing colourful annual seeds (and a few perennials for good measure).
- putting up our temporary fencing again using coppiced logs provided by Hackney Council.

But wait, there's more!

We'll also be making a start on a spectacular new addition to the meadow: A BLUEBELL WOOD! We planted some test bulbs in autumn, and they seem to be doing just fine. So now we'll expand our efforts, and start creating a these beautiful sea native of flowers below the trees.

The details:
When: Saturday 19th March, 11am-4pm.
Where: Mabley Meadow - between the A12 flyover and Eastway, on Lee Conservancy Road. Click here for a map.
What to bring: sturdy shoes, a packed lunch, and all your friends and neighbours.

Seeing you there!
